SPE and its Aim

The Society for Professional Engineers ( SPE ) established in 1989, grew from the origins  the Engineering Association of South Africa (EASA) established in 1942 and the South African Association of Engineers (SAAE) of 1898, and also incorporating the Federation of Societies of Professional Engineers.

The aim of the SPE is to "Unite Engineers in common cause."

Who is entitled to Membership of SPE ?

SPE's membership is open to all graduate and professional engineers of all disciplines, regardless of race, colour,  creed or sex and is fully aware of the need for professional bodies to adapt to and be part of the rapidly changing socio economic environment. As a member of SPE you will be part of an organisation that identifies the Graduate Engineer and the Professional Engineer as prominent persons practising a respected profession which is considered to be the basis of all wealth creation. 

SPE looks after the interests of 18,500 Engineers.

 

3. What does SPE's Logo Symbolise ?

The logo symbolises Engineers World Wide. irrespective of discipline, united by direct representation in a single l Society of Professional Engineers

4. What is SPE's Mission ?

SPE's Mission is to unify Engineers by establishing a powerful and effective group based on common interests. SPE will ensure that Engineering will be recognised as equal to the other professions which, via similar organisations , have achieved the desired status in society. 

5. What are SPE's Goals ?

  • Develop and maintain high quality standards for the admission to and practice of engineering.

  • Raise the profile and prestige of the profession and enhance the image of engineers.

  • Provide quality services to our members and ensure effective management and administration of SPE affairs.

  • Propose measures to ensure an adequate supply of appropriately qualified engineers to support and to achieve sustainable growth and development.

  • To become the dominant force for the interests of all engineers in the World Arena.

  • To finalise a Continuing Professional Development (CPE) operating framework for Engineers World Wide.
